Earthquake in Chile: How can I help?
Many friends of CMF have asked how they can help the victims from last weekend’s earthquake in Chile. Although it is still too early to provide a full assessment of the situation, we know that there will be many needs stemming from this catastrophic event. CMF is now collecting funds for distribution through our teams. Here are two ways in which your contributions will be used:

Through CMF’s Globalscope Chile team
Due to the incredible response from their friends and supporters, the Globalscope team in Santiago, Chile, has opened a special fund at CMF to receive donations for direct relief. The immediate needs of students who attend the El Oasis campus ministry and their friends in the community will be met. Many of these young people and their families have homes that are severely damaged or demolished and will need to make repairs or move. When it becomes logistically feasible, El Oasis will organize a group of students to go south to help with the rebuilding. Donations will be used to help fund this effort.

Through Vic and Pam deLeón
CMF missionaries Vic and Pam deLeón worked in church planting and leadership training in Santiago and Concepción, Chile, from 1995 to 2009. They now serve with the CMF-Mexico team, training leaders and doing work among the urban poor through Community Health Evangelism, but still have very close ties in Chile.

Vic deLeón says that many of the Christian churches he worked with in Chile are in the area that is close to the center of the quake and are certain to need help. He will be traveling to Chile in the near future with a group from a church that partners with his ministry, so he will be able to get a first-hand look at the situation and how funds can best be used.
