Joska/Kausyani
On a 20-acre compound about 24 miles from the center of CMF’s work in the slums of Nairobi is the upper primary boarding school. Currently we have 559 children (274 boys and 285 girls) representing 469 families. Construction is ongoing for more dormitories.
We’ve planted over 1,650 trees at Joska: some decorative, some exotic (eucalyptus), some fruit trees, and many indigenous trees. Why were the trees planted? All of the trees had been removed, leaving only grass, so they are needed for food, shade, beauty, protection of soil from erosion, to stop deforestation, and as a way to hold the rain so that it does not all run off.
