Kiandururu
About 40,000 people live in an area 1.5-square kilometers referred to as Village II. A variety of tribes are represented, including the Bukusu of western Kenya, the Kikuyu of central Kenya, the Borana of northern Kenya, and the Kamba of eastern Kenya. They are employed predominantly as vegetable vendors, casual laborers and jua kali (itinerant) artisans. Many also make and sell the local (alcoholic) brew. They live in houses of tin, paper, or brick.
People who are living with HIV/AIDS in this area meet in the Kosovo area with villagers who attend the Kosovo Post Test Club for HIV/AIDS sufferers. Attendance is inconsistent, however, and the members’ attitude of dependence is challenging. The goals of CHE (Community Health Evangelism) are to initiate development projects that will help the community and to help the villagers grow spiritually. The CHE committee is still in the training stage.
