In our prayers – 7/10
July 20th, 2010
• ‘Celebration’: This retreat for campus ministers, sponsored by Globalscope, will be held July 25-30 in Nashville, IN. Globalscope staff, missionaries, and members of the ministry steering committee will also attend the event. Attendees will spend the week catching up with one another, reviewing the previous year, and recharging for the year to come.
• CHE training in Central Asia: The CMF team will lead a Community Health Evangelism training session for key leaders from all the villages they work with during the week of July 31 – August 4.
• Church launch in Rugby, England: Aaron and Diane Lincoln, church planters in England, have developed a relationship with the Bilton Evangelical Church, and are lending their church-planting experience as BEC makes plans to start a new congregation in the Cawston suburb of Rugby, where the Lincolns live. The Lincolns are exploring how they can work with the church to launch the new congregation this fall.
• Perspectives in Ethiopia: More than 50 students graduated June 19 from the very first “Perspectives on the World Christian Movement” class to be held in Ethiopia. David Van Wagenen was one of the facilitators for the course, held in Addis Ababa. Many of the new grads also attended a Community Health Evangelism Vision Seminar held in early July. Getting CHE started among the unreached in the slums of Addis Ababa is one of the goals of CMF’s Urban Poor ministries team.
• New teachers: There will be 30 new teachers beginning work this August at Bingham Academy, the school that CMF missionaries work with in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
• Ukrainian youth camp: About 20 students from Dustin and Karilyn Mullenix’s English Club, along with other acquaintances and friends of people in the local church, will attend a Christian youth camp sponsored by the church at a facility on the Sea of Azov, slightly northeast of the Crimean Peninsula. The camp runs from July 24 to August 1 and will emphasize Christ-centered conduct, daily Bible reading and discussions, and interaction through sports and games.
• Furloughing missionaries: Many missionaries are returning to the US this summer, and will spend long hours on the road visiting supporters and families. Fifty-three adults and children (15 families) will attend the furlough retreat in Indianapolis, July 25-30. Pray for rest, refreshment, and renewal.
• Globalscope-Chile: Danielle Fortunato, a member CMF’s team at the El Oasis campus ministry in Santiago, has been sharing in a personal Bible study with her good friend Rita for several months. As a result of this relationship and study, Rita has accepted Jesus as her Savior and is planning to be baptized. Danielle is overjoyed that Rita “is so motivated and enthusiastic about learning what it means to live with Christ.”
• Addis Ababa Women’s Bible Study Fellowship: This group organized by Marsha Van Wagenen is now an official, established BSF class. They will begin an eight-month study of Isaiah on September 18, along with all the other BSF classes around the world. About 100 women are registered for the group, along with 25 children in grades 1-12.
