In Our Prayers – 8/10
August 12th, 2010
Assessment Center: Five applicants will attend the weekend event Aug. 13-16: Nathan Heald, Amber Holland, Christ Hylton and Caleb and Christy Phillips. Pray for the participants, staff, and assessors, and for God’s will in the decision-making and placement concerning each applicant. Another AC will be held in mid-October.
Turkana:
A Women’s Seminar, planned by the Turkwell cluster of churches, will be held Aug. 24-26.
Many people in the Nabwel Ekorot community will hear about Jesus Christ for the first time in the next two months.
Pray for stability in Kenya. A constitutional vote will be held on Aug 4, and many people are already leaving their homes in fear of what will happen. There have been reports of groups arming themselves already in anticipation of the 2012 election.
Brazil: CMF is exploring the possibility of expanding the ministries in Brazil to include CHE-based (Community Health Evangelism) outreach in northeast Brazil, in partnership with the national churches. Carlos Franco, president of the CCMB (CMF Brazil) has made one trip to the northeast and is excited about the potential for partnership and transformation.
Central Asia: Eight expatriates and two nationals were recently gunned down in a senseless attack in the remote northern part of a country where CMF has a relief and development team. The team members were well acquainted with five of the victims, who were part of the close-knit international Christian community. Pray for their safety and for peace in the country.
Ukraine:
Dustin and Karilyn Mullenix report that thirteen young people made decisions to follow Christ at the Christian youth camp sponsored by their church in late July. “Everyone got along well and many new friendships were formed.”
The Mullenixes will join in partnership with a key Ukrainian church leader to implement church plants based on the organic church model, which focuses on multiplication.
Asia: Members of one CMF family team have been called in for a “chat” at the local police station after renewing their visas. Pray that the official questions were satisfied and that there will be no future repercussions.
England: Some Christian writers and thinkers believe that the culture in England may be shifting to a “post-secular” mindset that is more favorable to Christianity. There is a growing frustration and disillusionment with secular humanism. Please pray that there will be a spiritual awakening in England.
‘Celebration’ update: Globalscope director Phil Tatum reports that the “Celebration” retreat for international campus ministers, held in late July, was a “huge hit” with the nearly 40 attendees.
Mission Service Center:
Executive Director Doug Priest will speak at Atlanta Christian College on Sept. 1. Theme: “Back on Track – With God, With His Creation, With One Another.” He will attend a final preparation meeting for the National Missionary Convention on Aug. 30 in Burlington, KY.
Ben Fair, CMF’s new Director of Mobilization, will begin work Aug. 17.
