The Birth of Hope
“The sunrise in Nairobi always comforted Peter. It was a welcome certainty in his unpredictable, chaotic life. Peter donned his shabbiest clothes, stepped over his snoring father, and crept out into the alley. He glanced furtively in both directions to be sure there was no immediate danger before setting off down the narrow path.
“The path was strewn with trash and Peter did his best to avoid stepping on it, but he walked directly into a boy wearing a neat uniform complete with shiny black shoes. Peter was surprised to see fear in the boy’s eyes. A wave of shame washed over him as he realized that he was mistaken for a street boy.”
The Birth of Hope tells Peter’s story, one of a million people who live in the four-square mile Mathare slum of Nairobi, Kenya. Although the characters in this story are fictional, they accurately represent life without hope.
However, this is also the victorious true story about thousands of vulnerable children like Peter who are finding Hope because caring Christians have generously opened their hearts. Through CMF’s Hope Partnership, people living in the slums are finding a pathway toward a bright future and a relationship with Jesus Christ.
