One in a Million

A true story of one boy’s rescue from the Nairobi slums
A film by John Schmidt Productions

Baraka was a young boy growing up in the sprawling slums of Nairobi, Kenya. He had three strikes against him: He was poor; he was an orphan; and he was deaf. Then God intervened through a diverse group of Christians, missionaries, teachers, pastors, businessmen and doctors from four different countries.

Through a series of amazing connections, they pushed through overwhelming obstacles to give Baraka the gift of hearing and speech. Baraka’s inspiring story unfolds against the backdrop of the abject poverty and primitive surroundings that are the staple of daily life for millions of African people. Filmmakers John Schmidt and Sarah Sykes traveled to Nairobi and Nigeria to document Baraka’s story, a visual journey into a world that most Americans can barely imagine.

If you have a heart for the children of Africa, you will be inspired and uplifted by “One in a Million.”
