Staying in Touch with Missionaries You Support
Communication is very important for both the missionary and his supporters. Churches and individual supporters want to know what God is doing where the missionary they support is serving. Missionaries need and want the informed prayers of supporting churches and individuals.
To enhance communication and multiply prayers, here are some strategic ways to stay in touch with missionaries:
- Assign a Key Contact Person. Make it this person’s responsibility to communicate at least monthly and more personally with a specific missionary so that they can bring an update and specific prayer requests to the full missions committee.
- Email Newsletters & Blogs. Many missionaries send out email updates in addition to the printed prayer newsletters you receive. Ask to be placed on these email lists. Find out if your missionary has a blog online that you can read from time to time.
- Call. This is the most expensive option, but it is also the most personal. You can get an update and encourage your missionaries at the same time. Overseas calling can be affordable if you use calling cards (available at local household and drug stores) or by using Skype. Skype is a special computer program that uses the internet to make overseas communication affordable. However you choose to call, it is a good idea to make an appointment by email prior to phoning, confirming a good time to visit by phone
