Tübingen, Germany
The university town of Tübingen brings together the traditional European style with the fast pace of modern urban life. Tübingen is not only a town but an international community and a gateway to the rest of Europe. In the town of 85,000, there are 24,000 students who live, study, and work trying to intersect their hopes and dreams with the future of Europe and the world. In this academic atmosphere there is a need for a community that provides a message of hope in Christ.
Later in 2009 our ministry, called Unterwegs (on the way), will invite students to a campus house just off the main university campus! The house will be the center of activity – where community is built between our team and all the students involved. It will be a place for music, study, and relaxing … but it will also be where small groups eventually meet to discuss their lives and faith, where students can eat weekly meals together as a community, and where a weekly Bible study will be offered. Just imagine the house filled with students watching a soccer match on a projector screen, or small groups spread throughout the house meeting around coffee tables reading the Bible, or the floor filled with students sitting down to eat a free meal cooked in the kitchen before a weekly Bible study. We will also play sports, provide activities for men and women, and find ourselves walking everywhere throughout Tübingen to engage students in the community of Unterwegs.
