AIDS Crisis

Every 10 seconds 1 person dies of AIDS.
Every 6 and a half seconds another person contracts HIV.

The worldwide AIDS emergency has given us many opportunities to show the compassion of Christ for those in need. We continue to find ways to meet needs on each of our fields, partner with others involved in AIDS work, and bring comfort to a world in crisis.

In Kenya, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, and Ukraine, our clinics provide medications, care, and instruction for individuals, families, and communities affected by AIDS. Christian leaders do follow-up with families to teach prevention and share the Gospel.

All Community Health Evangelism (CHE) projects in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Thailand, and Mexico incorporate teaching and instruction on HIV/AIDS. The CHE programs train and support HIV counselors who will provide community education on HIV prevention and day-to-day care of AIDS patients and their families. CHE core values include training people to take responsibility for their own physical and spiritual health, thereby producing total community transformation.

Our international campus ministries educate university students within their communities on abstinence and a Christian’s response to AIDS.

p_aids2Because poverty and unemployment are the root causes of the spread of HIV/AIDS in the slums, Hope Partnership in Nairobi, Kenya, tries to address these issues in two ways:

  • Directly, by providing jobs at the Hope Center and schools for cooks, teachers, social workers, and guards.
  • Indirectly, by offering microenterprise training. The training uses CHE materials, which emphasize a personal relationship with Christ that leads to behavioral changes. The individual also has  training in order to be employed or to begin a small business.

In Africa, we have received funds and other help through partnerships with FAME, the Centers for Disease Control, and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. These partnerships have increased our outreach into communities to provide for the needs of the AIDS infected and affected.

We partner with supporting churches in the US to ensure that programs on these fields are funded and working at the highest level to have an impact in saving the next generation.
