Chile

Chile is a high-income economy with high living standards. It is among South America's most economically and socially stable and prosperous countries. It has a population of more than 17 million people, with about 85 percent living in urban areas. Childe is the most evangelical nation in Latin America, but as with the majority of college students around the globe, most have a nominal faith, at best. 

El Oasis is the Globalscope campus ministry in Chile, with teams in Santiago and Viña del Mar. The El Oasis campus minsters create open communities where students can explore faith. They try to model authentic Christian living and engage students in conversations about what it means to follow Christ.

The Globalscope Chile team’s goal is to make El Oasis “the place to be” for college students almost any day of the week. The ministry seeks to touch the students’ lives both physically and spiritually. Campus ministers, teamed with interns and U.S. exchange students, host a variety of activities designed to promote community and an introduction to Jesus Christ.

El Oasis Santiago

This Globalscope El Oasis campus ministry is located near the heart of downtown Santiago, the capital city of Chile. Santiago is home to about six million people; 350,000 college students attend its more than 30 universities. 

Here a few of the ways the team ministers to college students in Santiago:

  • Lead a Thursday night Bible study.
  • Plan, promote and lead worship services.
  • Offer opportunities for prayer support.
  • Plan enjoyable fellowship activities, such as karaoke night.
  • Provide opportunities for service projects.
  • Engage in discipleship and leadership development activities.

El Oasis Viña del Mar

A team of  four Globalscope campus ministers recently launched a new El Oasis campus ministry in the city of Viña del Mar. The team will follow the model of the ministry of Globalscope Santiago as they seek to model authentic Christian community for university students in the city.

Currently, the team is focusing on building a community of university students through social media, posting segments every other day that focus on helping students get to know the members of the team. They hope to build a solid core of students that best reflect Christ in this reality, and plan to eventually host events at different locations throughout the city.

The team wants to make El Oasis as sustainable as possibly by lowering ministry costs, partnering with local businesses and developing income-generating activities.
