Ethiopia
CMF ministry in Ethiopia began in the 1960s but was interrupted for 15 years by a communist regime that controlled the country from the mid-1970s to 1992. Our work was renewed in the early 1990s and focused on leadership development in our national partner church the Kristos Andinet Church (Unity in Christ Church). Parallel ministries among the Oromo and Gumuz peoples on the southwestern Wollega Province developed in the following years. Today, work continues with the Oromo from the Kiramu station where we provide training and discipleship for church leaders.
Ministry among the Gumuz people began in the 1970s and continues today from the two station of Yasow and Aygali. The Gumuz people live in the most remote places and many of them are still untouched by the modern world or the Gospel. We concentrate on training leaders for the churches and evangelists to plant new churches. In Aygali, a medical clinic is the cornerstone of our community development efforts, a tangible demonstration of God’s love at work. Evangelism and medical ministry have recently begun flourishing among the unevangelized Gumuz people who live in remote villages north of the Blue Nile River.
Our growing urban poor team works in the slums of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital, through Community Health Evangelism – an integrated ministry using Christ’s example of caring for the whole individual of any community, both physically and spiritually. Ministry focuses on those affected by HIV/AIDS, leprosy, and the orphaned and vulnerable children living on the streets.
We also serve as teachers and faculty members for Bingham Academy, an international school. Along with other staff at Bingham, we provide students with a high quality Christian education and an opportunity to impact the world to the glory of God.
