Church planters from many different tribal groups are being trained at our training center near Arusha. These students are provided with instruction in the Bible, Community Health Evangelism (CHE), agriculture, and literacy to prepare families for the church-planting task ahead of them. In June 2008, a group of church planters from the Maasai, Barabaig, and Digo people graduated and were sent back to their people to begin work. In fall 2008, a new church was started among the Barabaig with eight baptized believers, and by mid-March had 20 believers finished constructing their stick and grass church building. Another training session began in January 2009. Our current training sessions for church planter students began in August 2009 with 8 families from 4 different tribes.
CHE and mobile immunization clinics have an impact on many lives in remote villages. Church planters participate in the clinics, learning more about disease prevention and health improvement so they can continue modeling and teaching in their communities. In one village, 14 people received Christ as a result of CHE!
A new microfinance project of raising chickens is being developed on the mission center. This project will provide income for the church planters and much needed protein to their diets.
