In 2000, we began ministry among the growing immigrant Hispanic community (almost 1/10 of the population) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Initially, we worked to form foundational relationships with Hispanics through English as a second language classes, home Bible studies, VBS and family camp, and women’s and children’s clubs. The first Hispanic church was launched in early 2003 in facilities provided by Englewood Christian Church. This has grown into a partnership with these two congregations working and often meeting together. Leaders are also being discipled and empowered to plant and water the seeds of the Gospel. We also partner with an established congregation on the west side toward planting another Hispanic congregation.
Southern California is historically noted as being home to people of Hispanic heritage as well as immigrant Hispanics from throughout Latin America. Ministry in the Los Angeles area was a natural fit for us. After the planting of a Hispanic congregation in Downey, we launched another church with the help of Parkcrest Christian Church, Long Beach: Agape Christian Church. Marriage Encounter weekends provide a positive experience for married couples and are used as an evangelistic tool for the Hispanic churches.
Community Health Evangelism (CHE) has become an important strategy for our missionaries on both rural and urban fields. Our personnel based in the US are available to train missionaries or church teams, assist a field in the initiation of CHE, and provide help by phone, email, or on-site as a program develops.
The Missions Service Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, provides services for missionaries, field teams, and strategies for CMF’s work around the world.
