Abby Weller: ‘My service with CMF in Australia changed my life forever!’
Eight years ago, Abby Weller left the U.S. to journey to the other side of the world as a CMF team member, equipped with a calling to serve in youth ministry in Australia.
“I was only supposed to be in Australia for one year,” she said. “I had no idea the impact it would have on my heart or that it would change the course of my life forever.”
That one year turned into many more, and now, eight years later, Abby is overwhelmed by God’s goodness.
“I’ve had the honor to be a part of many different ministries that have introduced me to people who have impacted me in more ways than I did for them,” she said. “In creating spaces of belonging for others, I’ve found the space where I belong and want to grow roots for the rest of my life!
“And wouldn’t you know it, God even threw in a husband for me!” she added. “And He has been working on my heart and opening up doors for me to stay in Australia permanently.”
After much prayer and counseling with others, Abby has decided to move from her role as a support-based missionary to a tent-making missionary and will take a job with the local primary school as their Community Hub Leader.
“My role is to be the bridge between the school and the wider community, creating safe spaces of belonging and welcoming for those in our community who are isolated and marginalized,” Abby said. “The crazy thing about this is, most of the adults I’m engaging with are the parents of students who come to my youth group!
“If there’s anything I should have learned by now it is that God knows exactly what He is doing and His timing is impeccable,” she added.
Abby concluded her service with CMF at the end of February and will continue doing ministry while also earning an income in Australia. The ministries she worked with previously will be funded through the local church, grants and fundraisers.
Although Abby is officially leaving CMF, she has nothing but good things to say about her years as a CMF team member.
“CMF was one of the best decisions I ever made,” she said. “This organization goes above and beyond for their missionaries. They have been incredibly supportive in this transition and I look forward to seeing what God does with our relationship in the future.”
