Seminary of the Nations

The Seminary of the Nations was established by Dr. Steve Hooks to take seminary level education to teachers and preachers around the globe. “Teaching the teachers” was the mission and over the 15+ years of its existence, it equipped local church leaders in over 40 countries.

We are excited to revive Seminary of the Nations and provide a platform for U.S.-based college faculty to receive funding to travel and teach all over the globe! Through the giving of faithful partners, these college faculty members will be able to teach leaders across the world who are taking the good news to their own cultures.

Our plan is to expand the program so that faculty and institutions can apply for funds to bring scholars from other parts of the world to the U.S. to teach seminars and intensive courses. We believe that faculty and institutions are healthier, more creative, and theologically sound when they are connected to God’s mission in other parts of the world and have relationships with Christians from other parts of the world.

If you have a heart to send faculty around the world to pour into local leaders or to receive scholars to edify and equip faculty and institutions in the U.S., we welcome your partnership. What is the COVID-19 situation like in Kenya?

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Kenya was announced on March 13. Since then, the number of cases has risen steadily. For current statistics, please click here.

 

In an effort to curb transmission of the virus, the Government of Kenya has mandated a variety of restrictions that include social distancing measures, wearing masks in public, school closures, certain business closures, a nightly curfew, county border closures, and international border closures.

 

Are schools closed?

Yes. All schools in Kenya, including MOHI and boarding schools, have been closed until further notice.

 

Does my sponsorship make a difference right now?

Yes! And in many ways, now more than ever. This is a chance for you to stand with your sponsored child, their family, the community, and say, “Together, we will overcome.” It’s a chance to trust in God, show bold faith, and watch as He uses the resources you give to help those in need.

 

Your sponsorship continues to provide the funds needed for MOHI’s operations in and around our schools nationwide. From food to medical services to staff salaries, your generosity helps us be the hands and feet of Jesus.

 

How is MOHI continuing to serve students and families during this difficult time?

While obeying government directives, we’re still doing our best to meet the needs of our students and their families on a daily basis.

  • School staff are coordinating with PTA members and parents to deliver school lessons to students.
  • Social workers are being provided with resources to follow up with families remotely via mobile phone.
  • Community Health Evangelism (CHE) workers are working to educate communities on COVID-19.
  • After a brief closure for the development of new protocols and the acquisition of proper PPE, our medical clinics continue to see patients.
  • Food baskets, with a several week supply of non-perishable foods, are being distributed to as many families as possible, beginning with those in the most need.

 

How can I support my sponsored child during this time?

Pray for physical, emotional, and spiritual protection for your child, their family and the community they live in. Ask God to comfort your child and provide everything they need during this crisis.

 

How can I support MOHI during this time?

  • Pray: First and foremost, pray for God to intervene in this crisis. Pray for your sponsored child, their family and the community they live in. Pray for MOHI staff and leadership as they continue to serve.

 

  • Give: The most valuable physical contribution you can make at this time is to give towards our MOHI Disaster Relief Fund. Food insecurity is the most difficult and pressing issue, so providing baskets of non-perishable food to our already vulnerable families is currently our main focus. Our goal is to raise $30 for each of the 15,000 families MOHI serves to ensure they all receive this much-needed hope through hunger relief.

 

  • Sponsor: Finally, please continue sponsoring the child or children you are already connected with. In addition, please continue to advocate for others to sponsor a child or children in these particularly difficult times.

 

Is my sponsored child sick? Will I know if my sponsored child is sick?

Under Kenya's protection laws, we are unable to disclose the health status of a child without the consent of their parents. The child you sponsor may choose to write to you about any illness they encounter, but we will not ask them to.

 

Can I still send a gift or a letter?

While we appreciate your support, please do not send gifts or letters at this time. The USPS, and other delivery services, have temporarily stopped service to Kenya. Should I expect a letter or a thank you note?

Unfortunately, our students were unable to write their first sponsor letter of the year before schools closed. We look forward to having the students write letters to their sponsors once schools re-open.
