COVID-prevention handwashing is on the rise with MOHI students

Handwashing is really catching on in the Missions of Hope International (MOHI) schools in Kenya, reports CMF team member Raelyn Nicholson. The handwashing initiative was begun last year in an effort to control the spread of the coronavirus.

“Through diligent collaboration between the Education and Health Missions, I am thrilled to report that we have significantly improved the school hand hygiene infrastructure and observed a remarkable increase in handwashing with soap,” said Raelyn, who serves as the Health Quality Assurance and Liaison Coordinator with MOHI.

Now, every school has at least one handwashing point stocked with soap for every 50 students. A total of more than 350 stations were added at all the MOHI schools.

“What’s more, in covert observations of 2,776 students, 86 percent washed their hands at critical times, compared to 44 percent before any hand hygiene intervention,” said Raelyn.
