Globalscope: Celebrating 25 Years of Lives Changed by Community
In the summer of 2000, a group of six recent college graduates moved to Mexico City with a bold vision. They partnered with CMF International to start a campus ministry for university students, inspired by the community they had experienced at Georgia Tech. They called it Globalscope. Little did they know this small beginning would evolve into a global movement that would span three decades and touch countless lives.
Fast forward 25 years, and Globalscope has become one of CMF’s four strategic ministry areas. Today, Globalscope ministries thrive in 10 countries across five continents, with campus ministers from diverse backgrounds creating welcoming spaces for university students. These communities are known for their hospitality and grace-driven approach to sharing Jesus’ love.
Kami Burns Reed, our Director of Globalscope, reflected on her journey: “I first became involved with Globalscope 18 years ago as an exchange intern. My experience as a university student profoundly changed the trajectory of my life. I saw how students’ lives were transformed by being warmly welcomed into communities that focused on Jesus and made room for everyone to belong. I knew I wanted to continue being part of that.”
From those pioneering graduates who launched the first ministry, to the many students who have served as exchange or REACH interns, Globalscope has left an indelible mark on young people around the world. Many of these individuals are now leaders in their communities, churches, and workplaces, embodying the spirit of hospitality and grace they experienced through Globalscope.
As we celebrate Globalscope’s 25th anniversary, we’re taking a moment to reflect on its global impact. Over the last 25 years, there have been Globalscope ministries in 17 cities, nearly 1,000 staff members and interns have served with Globalscope ministries, and countless students have found a sense of belonging in these communities. The ripple effect of their experiences continues as they create welcoming spaces in their own spheres of influence—from their homes and communities to churches, non-profits, and businesses.
This year, we’ll be celebrating Globalscope’s 25th birthday in a variety of ways. We’ll collect and share stories of Globalscope’s impact, and we invite you to share your story if Globalscope has touched your life. There will be multiple opportunities to gather with the extended Globalscope community. We’re also planning to highlight Globalscope’s work with our partner organizations and share meaningful partnership opportunities throughout the year.
