New Alpha online groups in U.K. lead to deep discussions
A request from a friend who had previously taken Alpha, an 11-week course that explores the basics of the Christian faith, has led CMF team members Timothy and Tammy Aho to start two new online study groups for the course in Birmingham, England.
“We ran our first Alpha course in 2000, but haven’t led another one for six or seven years,” said Timothy. “Recently, one of our friends from the first course asked if we were leading or starting a course. She and her daughter were having spiritual conversations and the mother thought it would be helpful for her.”
After taking a poll with their virtual worship group that meets on Sunday mornings and making a few phone calls, the Ahos were able to organize two groups very quickly.
“One group meets on Sunday mornings and another on Monday evenings,” said Timothy. “Combined, the two groups number 27. Of those, 13 would probably say they are not followers of Jesus and two or three others need to go deeper with God.”
Timothy reports that the group dynamics are lively, animated and substantive.
“Please pray for the Holy Spirit to make hearts tender toward Jesus,” he said. “And that our friends will come to know personally that God loves them!”
